Firefighters are tackling a large fire at Bruntingthorpe Airfield, with residents in nearby villages urged to stay indoors and close windows and doors.
Ten fire engines have been deployed to the airfield to tackle the flames, and a large plume of smoke is visible in the area. The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
Residents advised to stay indoors
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service issued a warning on social media, saying: "Multiple fire crews are currently at Bruntingthorpe Airfield tackling a large fire. We currently have seven appliances in attendance, plus our aerial ladder platform. There is a large plume of smoke coming from the area - local residents should close windows and doors."
In a second post, which included photos from the scene, the fire service added: "As you can see from these photos from the scene, there is a large plume of smoke coming from Bruntingthorpe Airfield, where we have 10 fire engines tackling a big blaze. Residents in nearby villages should avoid smoke inhalation by staying indoors and closing windows and doors."
Ongoing response at the scene
The fire service has deployed seven appliances and an aerial ladder platform, with additional resources bringing the total to ten fire engines at the scene. The incident is ongoing, and authorities are advising local residents to take precautions against smoke inhalation.
