Firefighters rescued a person and two dogs from a burning building after a blaze took hold in Tranmere last night. Ten fire engines were called to the scene in Dial Road, where a garage business and adjoining property had gone up in flames.
Crews called to Dial Tyres blaze
The crews arrived around 11.35pm on Friday night and found the Dial Tyres business on fire along with a two-storey house next to it. One person was rescued from a first floor bedroom window using a triple extension ladder, and two dogs were also rescued from the burning property.
Ten fire engines were reportedly at the scene at around 1.30am. The rescued person was assessed by paramedics at the scene.
Residents describe dramatic scenes
When the ECHO visited the scene this morning, firefighters were still in attendance, although only one engine remained in place. Teams could be seen going in and out of the tyre business, which has been severely damaged. Dial Road and its adjoining side roads remain cordoned off, with a large amount of water being pumped into the area. People are advised to avoid the area.
Neighbours spoke to the ECHO about the dramatic scenes. Jay White, who lives locally, said: "I have just been for a look inside and it's absolutely melted bro. There is nothing left in there."
Another local resident, called Liam, said: "I heard about it last night. One of my mates told me what was happening and I was like 'what the hell?' I came out this morning and the fire crews were still here. It was still smouldering with smoke. It hasn't caused too much disruption for us, just the buses. I'm glad everyone is ok."
Local businesses affected
Lisa runs a dog grooming business in Dial Road, which backs onto the scene of the fire. She said her business was not damaged but she is unlikely to be able to open up today, with fire crews still on the scene and the area still cordoned off. She told the ECHO: "It has shut the road so no customers can come down here. I got a text message about it last night, I ran round this morning to check my shop was ok. I don't think we will be able to open today. Saturday is a busy day so it's not ideal."
Local residents have been advised to keep doors and windows closed. Anyone with an existing health condition should keep medication close and if any ill effects are experienced dial NHS 111 for advice.
