A Florida father has died after helping to rescue his daughter from the ocean on Father's Day. Antwon Wilson, 33, was at a beach in Fort Lauderdale with his two children when they got into difficulty in the water.
Lifeguards had gone off duty about 20 minutes before the incident at around 7.30pm on Sunday. They returned after an emergency call from a nearby hotel and found Wilson keeping one of his daughters afloat. Bystander Eslam Saad also attempted to help but became overwhelmed and had to leave the water.
Lifeguards managed to pull Wilson's daughter to safety, but the father went underwater. Rescuers found him and took him to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His daughter and Saad were treated and are expected to make a full physical recovery.
Tributes have been paid to Wilson, who worked for a tax and financial services firm. His grandmother described him as a hero and asked for prayers for the family. A GoFundMe page has been set up to support his daughters.
