
The heartbroken family of 85-year-old John Keil have spoken of their profound grief after the beloved grandfather was killed in a suspected dog attack while carrying out his daily mail round in the Scottish countryside.
John, described by his devastated family as a "kind and gentle soul" who was "loved by all who knew him," was found with serious injuries on the remote path between Lethem and Moffat in Dumfriesshire last Thursday afternoon.
A Life Cut Short in Tragic Circumstances
Emergency services rushed to the scene following concerns for the pensioner's welfare, but despite their best efforts, John was pronounced dead at the location. Police Scotland have confirmed they are treating the death as a suspected dog attack and have launched a full investigation into the tragic incident.
In an emotional statement released through Police Scotland, John's grieving family paid tribute to the much-loved octogenarian, saying: "John was a kind, friendly and active man who was loved by all who knew him. He will be sorely missed."

He confirmed: "We were made aware of concern for a man near to a path between Lethem and Moffat around 3.20pm on Thursday, 11 July. Emergency services attended and an 85-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene."

The detective inspector added: "While our investigation is ongoing, his death is being treated as suspected to have been caused by a dog. His family are aware and are being supported by officers."
