Family Pays Emotional Tribute to Michael Henry
The family of Michael Henry, the 19-year-old kayaker missing off the Northumberland coast, have issued a heartfelt tribute after police concluded the search and presumed him dead. Michael, from the Rothbury area, was one of two men on a kayak near Boulmer when it capsized on the evening of July 7. The other man reached a nearby buoy and was rescued by the coastguard.
Search Efforts Concluded
Northumbria Police announced on Wednesday that extensive sea and coastal searches had ended. The force reiterated its belief that the teenager tragically lost his life. Chief Inspector Jon Caisley extended deepest sympathies to Michael's family and friends, acknowledging the impact on the community.
Family Statement
In a statement, Michael's family said: "Michael was a much-loved son, brother, grandson, nephew, team-mate and friend; a keen sportsman who loved the outdoors. He was preparing to go travelling this summer and hoping to start university next academic year. Michael will be forever in our thoughts, and we will miss him." They thanked emergency services and everyone involved in the search.
Police Appeal for Privacy
Chief Inspector Caisley added: "Despite extensive searches at sea and on the coast, we have been unable to find Michael and he is sadly believed to have died at sea. We would continue to ask that people respect the family's privacy at this time."
