Ex-Premier League Star's Son Arrested: Armed Police Storm McDonald's in Dramatic Drink-Driving Bust
Ex-Premier League Star's Son Arrested in McDonald's Raid

In a scene more akin to a crime drama than a fast-food run, armed Metropolitan Police officers descended upon a McDonald's in Bexleyheath, South London, to arrest the son of former Premier League striker Carl Cort.

The dramatic arrest unfolded on Tuesday afternoon after police received reports of a suspected drink-driver behind the wheel of a powerful Audi RS Q8. The vehicle, a high-performance SUV capable of immense speed, was tracked to the busy fast-food outlet's car park.

Eyewitnesses described a tense standoff as officers, some armed, approached the vehicle. The suspect, 28-year-old Claydon Cort, was subsequently detained without further incident. He was later charged with a catalogue of driving offences.

A Catalogue of Charges

Claydon Cort, of Welling, did not enter a plea during his appearance at Bromley Magistrates' Court. He faces a series of serious charges, including:

  • Driving a motor vehicle above the alcohol limit
  • Driving without insurance
  • Driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence

The court heard how police were alerted to the Audi being driven 'erratically' through the streets of South London, prompting the swift response.

Footballing Legacy Overshadowed

The arrest casts a shadow over the family name of his father, Carl Cort, a respected former professional footballer. The elder Cort enjoyed a prolific career in England's top flight, turning out for clubs such as Wimbledon, Newcastle United, and Wolverhampton Wanderers throughout the late 1990s and 2000s.

Claydon Cort has been released on unconditional bail and is scheduled to appear before the same court for a trial on November 6th. The outcome could have significant implications for the young man, potentially resulting in a lengthy driving ban and a substantial fine.

The Metropolitan Police have reiterated their commitment to taking all reports of drink-driving seriously, especially when public safety is potentially put at risk by powerful vehicles being operated illegally.
