Essex Police seized 13 high-performance cars, including Lamborghinis, a Ferrari and a Porsche, on the M11 on Tuesday after receiving multiple reports from members of the public about a convoy driving in a dangerous and anti-social manner northbound.
The force was called to the motorway at about 4.20pm after witnesses described vehicles accelerating sharply and braking heavily, disrupting the flow of traffic. Officers stopped the cars at Junction 8 and issued 13 warnings for anti-social driving.
Hard-shoulder overtaking alleged
Witnesses said the cars were speeding up before slowing down suddenly, with drivers also accused of travelling closely together and using the hard shoulder to overtake other road users.
Sergeant Will Willsher said: "The behaviour reported to us was not only anti-social but potentially placed other road users at serious risk, especially on a busy motorway during peak travel times. Roads Policing Unit officers acted quickly to locate the cars and take appropriate enforcement action. Speed limits are there to keep everyone safe and the law applies equally to all road users."
Offences under investigation
A number of offences have been identified for further investigation, and inquiries remain ongoing, Essex Police said.
