Dorset Police have launched a murder investigation after the body of a woman in her 80s was discovered at a home in Bournemouth. A man in his 80s, known to the victim, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to hospital for treatment.
Police received a report at around 7pm on Thursday evening raising concerns for the welfare of the elderly woman. Officers and an ambulance were dispatched to the address on a country lane in a leafy suburb, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detective Inspector Mark Jenkins of Dorset Constabulary said: 'Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the woman who has sadly died. We have launched an investigation to establish the full circumstances of what happened.'
Jenkins appealed for anyone with information to come forward, adding that there would be an increased police presence in the area in the coming days. The arrested man remains in hospital, and no further details have been released.
