A murder investigation has been launched after an elderly man died at Harold Wood station in east London following an unprovoked attack. Police were called at 4.30am on Tuesday after a member of the public found the man seriously injured on the floor. Despite efforts from police and paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The station, served by the Elizabeth line and Great Eastern Main Line, was closed for the rest of the day. A 22-year-old man, Miles Skai of Brent Cross, Hendon, has been charged with murder and appeared at Barkingside Magistrates' Court.
Detective Chief Inspector Sam Blackburn said: 'This act of unprovoked violence was despicable. The investigation remains in the early stages, and although we are satisfied that this was an isolated incident, the station will remain closed while we continue our enquiries.'
