An easyJet flight from Glasgow to Palma descended into chaos on Sunday night when a man launched into a foul-mouthed rant, shouting expletives, verbal abuse, and violent threats in front of horrified passengers. The incident occurred just before landing at 1.30am on Monday, September 28, and police met the flight on arrival in Mallorca.
Rant caught on video
Footage taken on board shows the man staggering up and down the aisle, hurling insults at families. In one outburst, he shouts: "look at the state of you ya f****** wee tramp, I'll put one in your nut ya dafty." He then threatened a passenger, saying "I'm going to smash your c*** in" and added: "Santa Ponsa's a wee place, wee man, I'll find you on the strip and smash f*** out you."
The man reportedly kicked off after a passenger asked him to stop being disruptive because children were on board. Passengers tried to intervene, and the man eventually retreated to his seat after being told to sit down, but continued to glare at the back of the cabin.
Witness account
A passenger on the flight told the Record: "There was a group that were being aggressive to the staff on the plane. The captain said over the tannoy that people were drinking their own booze and must stop. He did a couple of tannoy announcements to that effect, along with telling them to treat staff respectfully. By the time we had just landed, the group were up on their feet causing a ruckus, even with the fasten seatbelt sign on."
The passenger added: "Someone got up to tell them that there was kids on board and to calm down. That’s when the big guy kicked off and started going a bit nuts. Soon as the doors opened they were carted off by the police, no struggle at all, must have known it was coming. We were allowed off after only around ten minutes, and we saw them in the custody of police."
Police and airline response
It is believed three people were detained by police after the incident. An easyJet spokesperson said: "A Flight EJU7358 from Glasgow to Palma on 28 September was met by police on arrival due to a group of passengers behaving disruptively onboard. EasyJet’s crew are trained to assess all situations and acted quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers was not compromised at any time. The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is always easyJet's priority. We take any incidents very seriously and do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour onboard."
The Guardia Civil, Spanish police, were contacted for comment. Police Scotland confirmed they weren't involved.
