An easyJet flight from Glasgow to Palma, Mallorca, was thrown into chaos on Sunday, September 27, when a furious passenger launched into a foul-mouthed rant, making violent threats to others on board. The flight, bound for the Spanish island, turned vicious after the man began shouting expletives and threatening fellow flyers.
It is believed the man was part of a group and kicked off after someone told him to stop being disruptive because there were children on the flight. Footage from the plane showed him staggering up and down the aisle, hurling insults at terrified passengers. In one outburst, he branded someone "a f***ing tramp" and threatened: "I'll put one in your nut, ya dafty".
While being held back, he demanded another passenger stand up and issued a chilling threat, shouting: "Santa Ponsa's a wee place, wee man," adding: "I'll find you on the strip and smash f*** out you."
Police meet flight on arrival
The plane was met by police on arrival in Palma, and it is understood three people were detained by officers on arrival. The incident is far from the first time there have been bust-ups on flights to and from Scotland.
The Daily Record has reported on a number of unsavoury mid-air incidents in recent years, including a Jet2 flight from Edinburgh Airport that was forced to U-turn to the capital last month after a series of alleged assaults from a passenger.
Recent mid-air incidents
Gerard Buist, 32, has appeared in court charged with three counts of assault and one count of assault to injury on board the flight to Cyprus. The flight was only 30 minutes into its journey to Larnaca when it swooped back to Scotland. Footage taken from inside the aircraft showed emergency services waiting on the tarmac as a man was dragged off the plane by police officers and into a van.
In February 2024, Ryanair passengers had to be pulled apart from each other after a huge brawl broke out on a flight from Edinburgh to Tenerife. Children on board were left "terrified" and "in tears" after a dozen yobs started scrapping on the plane. Men and women were filmed screaming at each other with louts "throwing bottles" as the rammy turned violent.
A Good Samaritan attempting to cool the situation was told: "Shut up, you little c**t" by another woman. The flight was diverted to Porto in Portugal so the thugs could be hauled off. But after the diversion was announced, the bust-up turned up a notch as flight staff desperately attempted to intervene and control the rammy.
One dad said the journey was "the worst flight of [his] life" and although Ryanair confirmed a number of passengers were removed from the flight in Portugal, the dad said even more should have been taken off.
Brothers brawl and other incidents
Just days before the above incident, on the same Edinburgh to Tenerife route, two brothers were filmed scrapping on board the plane. The boozed-up siblings turned to blows after one of their partners got in an argument with another passenger. The woman is alleged to have threatened her fellow flyer before her boyfriend's brother told her to shut up.
The siblings then began arguing before punches were thrown. In footage of the scrap, the pilot can be heard over the PA system begging for the brawling brothers to "please take your seats". A passenger claims one of the men landed a headbutt before the warring pair were eventually split up. Spanish police were called and the pair were huckled off the flight when they arrived in Tenerife.
In October 2024, a woman shouted "f*** you" to an entire flight as she was removed by police. The woman had been on a Jet2 flight from Edinburgh to Dalaman in Turkey before her behaviour forced the pilot to divert to the German city of Cologne, where local police hauled her off. Passengers claimed two "drunk" women started an argument and had even been warned about their behaviour before take-off. Things peaked when one of them spat in the other's face and the flight team made the decision to divert.
Footage showed the disruptive passenger claiming she hadn't done anything wrong as cops arrived to remove her. But she turned and yelled: "F** you all" to the rest of the flight as she was huckled off.
In April 2024, a boozy passenger flying from Poland to Edinburgh had to be restrained by fellow passengers after sparking a mid-air rammy. The Krakow flight never reached the capital, being diverted to Edinburgh so the "highly intoxicated" Roman Pawlicki could be removed. Pawlicki grabbed the arm of a flight attendant during the incident, where his behaviour was "so concerning" that the plane had to make an unplanned stop in Newcastle. Appearing in court months later, the pensioner was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for 18 months.
