An EasyJet passenger plane was forced to declare an emergency shortly after departing from Manchester Airport on Thursday. Flight U22253, bound for Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt, halted its climb due to a medical incident on board, prompting a swift return to Manchester.
Details of the Incident
Flight tracking data reveals that the Airbus A320neo, which can carry between 150 and 180 passengers, abruptly cut short the five-hour journey almost immediately after takeoff. The aircraft stopped its ascent at 3,700 feet, failing to reach its planned cruising altitude. The crew transmitted the Squawk 7700 emergency code via the transponder, alerting all surrounding air traffic control units to a general mid-air emergency.
Emergency Procedures
Following the declaration, pilots executed a series of emergency checklists to ensure the aircraft was properly configured for a swift return. The plane made an unscheduled precautionary landing back at Manchester Airport after completing necessary procedures. Local emergency crews and airport fire services were on standby upon arrival, as is standard practice for such unscheduled landings.
Airlines Confirmation
The airline later confirmed that the diversion was due to a medical emergency on board, as reported by Air Live. This incident follows another EasyJet flight that made an emergency landing after a passenger left a phone charging on a powerbank in luggage, causing a safety concern.
Passengers on the affected flight were accommodated for delays, with the next available flight scheduled later. The quick response by the crew ensured the safety of all on board.
