East Manchester Raid: Drugs, Bikes, Dogs Seized After Moped Chase

Greater Manchester Police executed a major raid on a property in Openshaw, east Manchester, on Tuesday, June 30, after officers used a drone to follow a suspicious moped to the location. The operation resulted in the seizure of suspected Class A drugs, ammunition, stolen vehicles, and five dogs.

Drone Surveillance Leads to Property Search

At around 4pm, officers from GMP's Operation Venture team spotted a suspicious moped and tracked it using a drone. The vehicle led them to a house in the Openshaw area, where police immediately raided the property and detained several individuals.

During a thorough search, officers discovered an outside shed containing four motorbikes, a Surron, and three off-road style bikes. A suspected stolen quad bike was also found in the front garden. All seven vehicles were recovered on suspicion of being stolen.

Drugs and Weapons Found in Duffel Bag

Inside the property, a duffel bag was uncovered containing suspected Class A drugs, including heroin and cocaine. Police also found ammunition for a handgun and a knuckle duster. The items were seized as evidence.

Additionally, five dogs described as pitbull or XL Bully types were taken from the property for further assessment. The breed types are subject to legal restrictions under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Arrests and Charges

Three men and a woman, aged between 19 and 45, were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, possession of offensive weapons, and handling stolen goods. They remain in custody for questioning.

Inspector Joe Barron, from GMP's Operation Venture team, praised the joint operation: “This was an excellent joint-operation by several different teams, resulting in seven vehicles being seized and thousands of pounds worth of drugs being recovered. Our officers are always looking to proactively tackle issues across the Manchester area, and this is a case which has produced significant results thanks to that hard work. I would urge anyone with any information about drug supply in their area – or likewise any suspicions regarding stolen bikes or similar – to please get in touch with us.”

Community Impact and Ongoing Investigation

The raid is part of ongoing efforts by GMP to combat drug supply and vehicle theft in the Manchester area. The seized dogs will be assessed by specialists to determine their breed and any potential risk. Police continue to investigate and encourage the public to report suspicious activity.
