About a dozen naked men were seen spilling out of a vehicle at Main Beach on Australia's Gold Coast before sprinting through a popular dining strip, shocking diners at upscale restaurants.
The group emerged from a car at the corner of Breaker Street in Main Beach, shouting "go, go!" as they ran off into the night, according to witnesses. They turned down Tedder Avenue, known for its chic eateries, and completed a loop before streaking past again.
Witness accounts
A stunned onlooker was heard saying: "What the hell are they doing?" and then answering, "They're nudie running!" Another witness remarked it was "the most action Main Beach has ever seen" and added: "Everyone was standing up in the restaurant having a look." Some speculated the men were on a bucks night.
Police response
Queensland Police confirmed they are aware of the incident but will not take action unless a criminal complaint is received. As of Monday, none had been filed. In Queensland, wilful exposure carries a fine of about AUD$345, while public nuisance charges can reach over AUD$500 if distress is caused.
Acting Chief Superintendent Brett Jackson stated that as the Gold Coast is a popular tourist destination, there is a likelihood families and young children could see something parents wouldn't want them to. He said: "That behaviour isn't what we want to see on the Gold Coast and it won't be tolerated." He added that police will investigate if it "comes into our knowledge that something has occurred and caused distress to someone."
