A dog owner in Edinburgh is desperately appealing for help after his beloved pet was allegedly stolen outside a supermarket. Andrea Paviani said his one-year-old American Bully, Kali, was grabbed by a tall man dressed in blue clothing near the Lidl on Wauchope Avenue in Niddrie.
The incident occurred at approximately 7pm on Wednesday, 4 February. Mr Paviani described Kali as extremely lively and said she would dash towards anyone who called her name loudly. The brown and white dog weighs 30kg, has a white patch on her forehead and tail, and was wearing a yellow lead and blue collar at the time.
Mr Paviani urged the public to help reunite Kali with her owner. He said: 'She answers to Kali if shouted very loudly, she will run to you in a second. Help me bring Kali back home to her dad.' He confirmed that police have been notified of the theft.
Dog theft remains a significant concern across the UK. According to recent data, an estimated 1,808 dogs were reported stolen in 2024, a 21% decrease from the previous year, but the emotional impact on owners is still severe.
