Hampshire Police are investigating after a dog died in a vehicle fire at a McDonald's car park in Petersfield. The incident occurred on Winchester Road at around 12:15am on June 22.
Arrest and bail
A 28-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested on suspicion of arson, causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, and no insurance. He has been bailed with conditions until September 22 while enquiries continue.
Appeal for witnesses
Officers reviewing CCTV footage are keen to speak to two members of the public who appeared to try to gain entry to the vehicle to help the dog. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting reference number 44260294619, or report online via the Hampshire Police website.
