The wife of Richard Allen, the man convicted of murdering two teenage girls in Delphi, Indiana, in 2017, has broken her silence, insisting her husband is not the monster portrayed by the public.
“My husband’s not a monster. He’s not the monster that people think he is,” Kathy Allen told ABC News Studios for the series “Capturing Their Killer: The Girls on the High Bridge.”
Allen was sentenced to 130 years in December after being found guilty of four counts of murder and kidnapping in the deaths of Abigail “Abby” Williams, 13, and Liberty “Libby” German, 14. The case, known as the “Delphi murders,” went unsolved for years until a volunteer flagged Allen’s misfiled statement.
Kathy Allen recalled that on the day the girls went missing, her husband told her he had been on the trail but had not seen them. He voluntarily contacted police, but heard nothing for five years. After his arrest in 2022, he denied involvement, but prosecutors highlighted multiple confessions he made in jail, including one to his wife where he said, “I did it. I killed Abby and Libby.”
Despite the conviction, Kathy Allen maintains his innocence. “I want true justice for Abby and Libby, but it should not be at the expense of an innocent person,” she said. “I’m very hopeful for an appeal. It was definitely our dream to grow old together, and it still is. I’m not giving up.”
