A delivery driver is facing a DUI charge after crashing his vehicle into a home in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, while under the influence, authorities said.
Crash Details
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office and South Metro Fire Department responded to the incident on Wedgewood Drive on Sunday morning. Upon arrival, they discovered a red Mazda that had plowed into the side of a house, coming to rest between two couches and just feet from a piano.
Photos from the scene show the vehicle almost entirely inside the home, with a massive hole in the exterior wall. Remarkably, no one was home at the time, and no significant injuries were reported.
Driver's Condition
According to the sheriff's office, the driver had fallen asleep at the wheel while delivering packages. The driver, whose identity has not been released, now faces charges of driving under the influence and reckless driving, as reported by CBS News.
Community Response
In a social media post, the sheriff's office expressed relief that the incident did not end in tragedy, adding a lighthearted comment: "Not exactly the kind of 'fast delivery' anyone wants." They urged drivers to "slow down, stay alert and help keep our community safe."
