Emergency services were called to railway tracks near Eaglescliffe in the North East following an incident that left one person dead and another with life-changing injuries. The incident occurred at 10.16pm on Tuesday, 28 July.
Emergency response
British Transport Police, North East Ambulance Service, the Great North Air Ambulance, and Cleveland Fire Brigade all attended the scene on the line alongside Marlborough Road. Medical teams also treated a passenger who became unwell aboard the train.
Police statement
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to the [station] near Stockton-on-Tees at 10.16pm yesterday (July 28) following reports of two casualties on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene while another person was taken to hospital with life-changing injuries."
They added: "Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances leading up to the incident."
Ambulance service details
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed: "We were called to an incident on the train line near Eaglescliffe station shortly before 10.20pm on 28 July. We dispatched two double crewed ambulances, a duty officer, a clinical team leader and were supported by the Great North Air Ambulance medical car. One patient was taken to James Cook Hospital."
"While at the scene, we were alerted to a person unwell on the train, and we assisted the British Transport Police in helping them and two other passengers alight the train. They did not require treatment."
