Crystal Palace's pre-season friendly against Rayo Vallecano was temporarily suspended on Saturday after a medical emergency in the stands. The match, held in Leipzig, Germany, was stopped in the 36th minute with the score at 0-0.
Rayo Vallecano goalkeeper Augusto Batalla alerted the referee by sitting on the pitch and pointing towards the Spanish supporters. Referee Maurizio Mariani then signalled a stoppage. A Rayo Vallecano fan was later seen being carried out of the stadium on a stretcher.
Commentator Adam Summerton confirmed on TNT Sports: 'What we're hearing is that there has been a medical emergency, sadly, amongst the Rayo Vallecano supporters.' He added: 'Our best wishes to the supporter affected in that stand, we hope everyone involved is OK.'
The match resumed after a break of around four minutes, with a message on the big screen explaining the situation. Four minutes of added time were played at the end of the first half, which remained goalless. Crystal Palace went on to win 1-0 thanks to a second-half goal from Jean-Philippe Mateta.
Earlier, there were reports of trouble between fans, with German police intervening. Around 300 Rayo Vallecano supporters considered at high risk of hooliganism were involved in altercations with Crystal Palace fans in the city centre, leading to dispersal orders and identity checks.
