A man who threatened to kill two Kent police officers has been sentenced to two years and eight months in prison. Daniel Parkes, 44, of no fixed address, was convicted of making threats to kill after a trial at Canterbury Crown Court.
Parkes believed police were targeting him in a three-year campaign and claimed his former partner had an affair with an officer. He threatened PC Adam King and PC Scott Burn, telling a call handler he wanted to 'put a bullet behind the ear' of PC Burn. The threats led to armed police guarding the officers' families.
PC Burn, a former Royal Marine, told the court his wife and children were moved to a safe location and a panic alarm was installed. PC King said he feared being attacked on sight as Parkes lived nearby.
Parkes was arrested in Spain under a European Arrest Warrant. He apologised in court, promising to leave the UK and never return. He said he had changed his ways and had run a successful butcher business in Spain.
Recorder Alistair Webster QC sentenced Parkes to 32 months, with time already served deducted, and imposed a six-and-a-half-year restraining order. He noted the threats were repeated and serious.
