Garry Chapman, the police officer son of reality TV star Duane 'Dog the Bounty Hunter' Chapman, has been fired from the Princeville Police Department in Alabama following a high-speed car chase that ended in a crash killing a 17-year-old boy.
The termination was upheld by Princeville Mayor Sam Heflin, who said the chase should have been stopped. Chapman, 24, had been on administrative leave with pay since the incident on 6 September, when he pursued a suspected drunk driver from Princeville into neighbouring Hartselle.
During the pursuit, the suspect's car slammed into a minivan carrying four teenage boys. Tristan Hollis died in hospital after the crash. The other teens were brothers Gavin Prater, 14, and Noah Prater, 16, and Braxton Wales, all injured. The suspect, Archie Hale, faces charges including murder and driving under the influence.
Chapman, the youngest son of Duane Chapman, plans to appeal his firing at a hearing with the city council on 13 October. His attorney Scott Morro said: 'Garry Chapman is an excellent police officer... The fact and law are on Garry Chapman’s side.'
The Chapman family has endured another tragedy this summer when Duane Chapman's step-grandson, Gregory Zecca, fatally shot his own 13-year-old son Anthony in a 'freak accident' in Florida.
