A police officer was left with a bloodied face after an alleged attack outside a shopping centre in Glasgow. Officers searching for a missing person were called to St Enoch Square in the city centre around 6pm on Wednesday, August 12.
Four officers were seen speaking to a man carrying a bag. An eyewitness told the Record that violence erupted after the man reportedly punched a police officer in the face before fleeing the scene.
Eyewitness account
The eyewitness said: "I was walking by St Enoch Square when I saw a police officer speaking to a man on the street. Then I saw the officer getting punched in the face. He really got his face smashed in."
Cops chased the man round the corner, and the assaulted officer was taken into a police van to receive medical assistance. Police apprehended a man nearby, who was found to be carrying an offensive weapon.
Arrest and charges
Video footage showed a man being arrested on the ground by two officers. Nearby, another police officer could be seen spitting blood, with blood appearing to pour from his nose and mouth. The assaulted officer is understood to have received medical assistance at the scene.
The 34-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with attempting to pervert the course of justice, culpable and reckless conduct, resisting arrest, and possession of an offensive weapon. A report is due to be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 6pm on Wednesday, 12 August, 2026 in St Enoch Square, Glasgow, a 34-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with attempting to pervert the course of justice, culpable and reckless conduct, resisting arrest, possession of an offensive weapon, and police assault. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
