American singer Chris Brown has pleaded not guilty to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm following an alleged bottle attack at a London nightclub. The 36-year-old appeared at Southwark Crown Court on Friday alongside co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu, who also denied the same charge.
The incident is said to have occurred at Tape club in Hanover Square, Mayfair, on 19 February 2023. Brown is accused of attempting to unlawfully and maliciously cause Abraham Diaw grievous bodily harm with intent. Both defendants face an additional charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, while Brown alone is charged with possessing an offensive weapon—a bottle—in a public place.
No pleas were entered for the additional charges. A further court hearing was scheduled for 11 July, with a trial expected to last five to seven days, starting from 26 October 2026. Brown arrived at court surrounded by photographers and walked silently inside, with around 20 fans seated in the public gallery.
The Grammy-winning singer was arrested in May after flying to the UK for his Breezy Bowl XX tour. He was detained at the Lowry hotel in Salford and later released on conditional bail after paying a £5 million security fee. Despite the legal proceedings, Brown has continued his tour, performing in Cardiff on Thursday and scheduled for two London shows this weekend, followed by dates in Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, Ireland, and Europe.
