New CCTV footage has emerged showing the chaotic final moments of the three London Bridge attackers as they were shot dead by armed police. The video, verified by sources, captures the end of Saturday's rampage which left eight people dead.
The footage shows the assailants—Khuram Butt, 27, Rachid Redouane, 30, and Youssef Zaghba, 22—attempting to enter a pub in Borough Market before turning on a passer-by. A City of London police armed response vehicle then arrives, with three officers rushing towards the attackers. One officer physically clashes with an attacker and both fall to the ground, before the officer rises and opens fire.
Another attacker is seen charging at an officer with a knife, forcing the officer to step back and fire. Within 20 seconds of the officers leaving their vehicle, all three attackers lie still. A total of 46 shots were fired by eight officers from the City of London and Metropolitan police. The officers also assessed canisters worn by the attackers as potential suicide vests.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating the shooting, as required by law. In a statement, the IPCC confirmed 46 shots were fired and said it is examining CCTV footage from within Borough Market. The Met confirmed it is aware of the circulating images.
