A 24-year-old man has died after a crash in a tunnel in Merseyside. The crash happened in the Queensway Tunnel, also known as the Birkenhead Tunnel, at around 1.05pm on Tuesday (August 11). It involved a single motorbike.
Crash details
The rider had been travelling on the Birkenhead to Liverpool carriageway when the incident happened roughly two thirds of the way through the tunnel, towards the Liverpool end. The man was rushed to hospital but sadly died there yesterday (Wednesday), reports the Liverpool Echo.
Victim named
He has been named by police as 24-year-old Korben Bell. He was from the Cheshire area.
Police appeal
Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, the lead investigating officer from the Merseyside Police serious collision investigation unit, said: "Our thoughts are with the family who at this time are being supported by specially trained officers."
"Our enquiries into the collision remain ongoing and we are continuing to appeal to anyone who saw the bike in the tunnel or witnessed the collision and has not yet come forward to do so.", reports the Liverpool Echo.
