CCTV footage shows a group of hooded individuals climbing up to the first floor of a garage in Splott, Cardiff, and breaking in. The incident took place at a garage on Wilson Street at around 3.30am on Sunday, September 27.
The video shows two people lifting a third person up so they can reach the upper floor. They appear to rip off wooden panels, handing them to the people below until a gap large enough for entry is created.
How the break-in unfolded
Once the first person is inside, a second person is helped by the remaining individual to climb into the garage. The third person appears to keep a lookout while the others explore the garage with torches.
After some time, one of those inside is seen jumping out of the garage before they run off on foot.
Business warns neighbours
The garage belongs to the nearby Nisa Local store on Carlisle Street. A post shared by the store on social media warned “how quickly someone can gain access to your property”.
The post reads: “After trying to get into our garage on Friday morning, the same people returned in the early hours of this morning again. This time they got inside, looked around and left empty handed.
“The garage is full of junk we’ve accumulated over the years. To be honest, if they’d taken some of it, they’d have done us a favour and saved me a trip to the tip!”
“Joking aside, the video shows how quickly someone can gain access to your property. If they’re trying one premises, other homes and garages in our neighbourhood could be targets too.”
“Please close your windows at night, check your doors are locked, and make sure garage doors and gates are secure.”
Appeal for information
In an appeal for information, the post continues: “If you have CCTV or doorbell footage from the early hours of Sunday, please check it. If you recognise anyone or have information, message Nisa Local Splott privately.”
“Our external cameras record 24/7. Please don’t approach anyone or post names in the comments. Please share this with neighbours nearby so they can stay alert.”
South Wales Police has been approached for comment.
