CCTV appeal after man requires surgery following Newcastle bar assault

Northumbria Police have released an image of a woman they would like to trace following an assault outside a Newcastle city centre bar that left a man in his 20s requiring surgery on his hand.

The incident happened at a venue on Nelson Street on Thursday, February 19, at about 11.30pm. The victim was standing in the outdoor seating area of the bar when a female, not known to him, approached him and became aggressive.

Victim pushed and fell backwards

The man was pushed by the woman, causing him to fall backwards. He was holding a glass tumbler in his hand at the time, which shattered as he fell, resulting in a significant injury to his hand.

He was taken to hospital where he underwent surgery to his hand. He has since been discharged.

Police release image of woman

Today (Monday), officers released an image of a woman they believe was in the area at the time and may have information that could assist the investigation.
