Police in Cardiff city centre responded to reports of a man thought to be carrying an axe, but the item turned out to be a toy. Officers were pictured speaking to a man outside the BBC Cymru Wales building at Central Square on Thursday evening, with what looked like a large axe seen on the ground.
Police Response at Central Square
A number of police vans were parked near the Wood Street entrance to the BBC shortly before 9pm as officers dealt with the incident. Images from the scene showed what appeared to be a large axe on the ground near the man.
Confirmed as a Toy
A spokeswoman for South Wales Police has since confirmed that the man was found with a toy plastic axe, and no offences were committed. A witness said they saw several police officers appearing to restrain a man before noticing what looked like a large axe on the floor.
