An on-duty police officer was taken to hospital and a man has been arrested after a crash in Cardiff on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred on Amroth Road in Caerau, where police were called just after 8.30pm to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and an e-bike. The pedestrian was a police officer.
Plain-clothes operation
South Wales Police said the officer was conducting patrols as part of a plain-clothes operation in response to community concerns about the illegal and anti-social use of high-powered electric bikes. As a result of the crash, the officer was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, with no serious injuries.
Arrest and seizure
A 25-year-old local man from Cardiff has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving without a licence, and possession with intent to supply cannabis. Several items have been seized during the investigation, including bags of cannabis, approximately £700 in cash, and a Sur-Ron bike.
The suspect remains in custody, and inquiries are ongoing. In recent months, concerns have been raised about e-bikes in parts of Cardiff and the anti-social behaviour of riders on the Taff Trail, where balaclava-wearing e-bikers carried out a series of robberies and attacks.
