Car Rolls Onto Devon Beach With Woman Inside

A swimmer in Torquay, Devon, had an unexpected surprise on Tuesday morning when her car rolled into the sea while she was taking a dip. The vehicle coasted down the steps at Oddicombe beach and ended up submerged up to its door handles.

According to witnesses, no one was inside the car at the time, and no one was injured. The accident occurred because the handbrake had failed, causing the car to roll into the water.

A lifeboat was initially called to the scene but was stood down once it became clear that no one needed assistance. The car was later recovered by Yalberton Autos, who towed it up a slipway.

Chris Harper of Yalberton Autos described the incident as a 'freak accident', adding that the owner was very lucky not to have been in the car at the time.
