A 40-year-old man from Warton has been arrested after a car drove through road closures at the Lytham Club Day event in Lancashire. Police were called just before midday on Saturday, June 27, following reports that a Honda HR-V had been driven at low speed through barriers on Albert Street.
Witnesses at the scene described members of the public restraining the driver on the ground until officers arrived. The incident caused alarm among attendees, but police confirmed no one was injured.
Police Statement on Arrest
In a statement issued on Saturday evening, Fylde Police said: "You may be aware of an incident at Lytham Club Day a little earlier today and we wanted to tell you what had happened. At just before midday today we were called to a report that a car had driven at low speed through road closures on Albert Street which were in place for the local club day. The car, a Honda HR-V, was brought to a stop and the driver was detained."
The driver, a 40-year-old man from Warton, was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink or drugs and assault. He remains in custody as enquiries continue.
No Injuries and No Wider Threat
Police emphasized that there is no ongoing or wider threat to the public. "Thankfully, no-one was injured in the incident and there is no ongoing or wider threat. We recognise that what happened may have caused concern and distress to some, in particular those who were there, but we wanted to set out the facts which will hopefully offer some reassurance," the statement added.
