A two-year-old boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a car crashed into the playground of a nursery in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, on Monday.

Eyewitnesses reported a heavy police presence at the scene following the collision, with four police cars, an armed response vehicle, a fire engine, two ambulances, and an air ambulance dispatched to the location.

Officers from Cheshire Constabulary were called to Vale Road in the Whitby area after reports of a crash. They found a vehicle had smashed through the nursery's playground fence.

Partou Sunny Days Nursery and Pre-school confirmed they were dealing with an incident and closed for the day. Two other children sustained minor injuries.

A 63-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Cheshire Constabulary stated: 'At around 9.54am on Monday 15 June, officers responded to reports of a collision at a nursery school on Vale Road. A car had driven through a fence and into the playground area. A two-year-old boy has sustained serious injuries and has been taken to hospital. The child's next of kin have been informed. Two other children sustained minor injuries.'
