Offices near Canary Wharf were evacuated on Tuesday morning following reports of a suspicious vehicle in Marsh Wall. The alert was raised shortly before 10am, prompting a response from police, fire, and ambulance crews.
Roads near South Quay station on the Isle of Dogs were cordoned off, and office workers were told to leave their buildings. A Transport for London spokeswoman confirmed that there was no service between Canary Wharf and Mudchute due to the police incident.
Marketing director Don Wong said his office was evacuated at around 11.30am. He told the Standard: "At first I thought it was just us but then we saw that every building on the South Quay had been evacuated. We were marshalled down to Asda but everyone was pretty calm."
Mr Wong said he was told he could return to his office at around 12pm. A Met Police spokeswoman confirmed the incident had been stood down, stating: "Police were called at 9:47am to reports of a suspicious vehicle at Marsh Wall. Officers, London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service attended the scene. Cordons were put in place whilst officers dealt with the incident."
Transport for London said roads around the station reopened at around 1pm. The cause of the alert remains unclear, but police have confirmed there was no ongoing threat.
