A California mother and her eight-month-old daughter have disappeared after a routine medical appointment, leaving family members desperate for answers. Whisper Owen, 36, and her baby Sandra McCarty were last seen on July 15, according to police.
Owen's mother, Vickie Torres, told CNN: 'I'm desperate to find my daughter and her baby.' Owen had travelled from Elk Grove to Fresno for a check-up for her daughter and planned to return home before dark, but never arrived.
Owen's brother, Richard, expressed fear that his sister may have suffered a medical emergency due to high blood pressure. 'My fear is that maybe there was a medical emergency behind the wheel, and maybe she had veered off the road,' he said. Police have stated there is no evidence of foul play.
Owen was last seen at around 5pm leaving Fresno. A traffic camera captured her 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer just after 8pm in Atwater, about an hour-and-a-half southeast of Elk Grove. The Fresno Police Department believes Owen and her daughter are no longer in the Fresno area.
Owen's partner did not report her missing until Saturday, assuming she had stayed to help her mother clean a recently purchased house. Owen leaves behind three other children, aged 17, 8, and 3, who are 'all devastated', according to Richard.
