Hero bystanders intervened to wrestle a knifeman to the ground during a stabbing incident in Belfast, with video footage capturing the dramatic moment. The attack occurred on Kinnaird Avenue in north Belfast at around 10.30pm on Monday, June 8.
Incident Details
Police were called to the scene following reports of an assault. Disturbing footage circulating on social media appeared to show a man being stabbed repeatedly in the head. The video also showed two bystanders stepping in to assist the stricken man on the ground, before alerting arriving officers that 'he's trying to cut his head off'.
Eyewitness Account
An eyewitness told the Belfast Telegraph that 'three men, one armed with a hurl, got the fella with the knife off the victim.' The quick actions of these bystanders likely prevented further harm.
Police Response
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed that one man has been taken into custody in connection with the attack. A substantial police presence remains in the area, with cordons still in place. A PSNI spokesperson stated: 'Police in north Belfast are currently in attendance at Kinnaird Avenue following the report of a stabbing incident shortly after 10.30pm on Monday 8th June. A man has been arrested in relation to the incident and is in police custody while a second man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.'
