Claudio Neves Valente, the 48-year-old Portuguese national suspected of killing two people and wounding nine others at Brown University, has been found dead in a New Hampshire storage facility from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, officials said.
Providence police chief Oscar Perez confirmed the discovery on Thursday evening, adding that investigators believe Valente acted alone. Valente, a former Brown student, had rented a unit at the facility.
The suspect is also believed to have killed MIT physics professor Nuno FG Loureiro in his home on Monday, two days after the attack at Brown. US attorney Leah Foley confirmed the connection at a separate news conference in Boston.
In response, US homeland security secretary Kristi Noem has ordered the suspension of the green card lottery programme at Donald Trump's direction, saying it had enabled Valente to enter the country.
