A 27-year-old British tourist was arrested in Magaluf after he slapped a police officer in the face and continued to struggle while the pair wrestled on the ground. The incident unfolded on the Punta Ballena strip when officers from Calvia local police were dealing with another matter.
Group shouted insults
A group of six or seven British tourists approached from behind, shouting insults that included “f*** the police.” One officer asked the group to calm down. When a man from the group confronted him and refused to provide identification, he tried to run. The 27-year-old then lunged at the officer and struck him on the right cheek.
Struggle and arrest
The officer kept his footing as several others in the group threatened further violence. Officers used defensive force and the tourist fled but tripped and fell, reported The Olive Press. He was intercepted, yet a struggle followed in which both men ended up on the ground. The man attempted to hit the officer again before being restrained and arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.
Released on bail
He appeared before a Palma judge on Saturday and was released on bail hours after the arrest.
