British Man Arrested in Portugal After Fatal Stabbing at Party

A 27-year-old British man has been arrested in Portugal on suspicion of stabbing another British man to death and desecrating his corpse following a party in the central town of Soalheira.

Portuguese police said the suspect, who was organising the party on a rural property, took the 37-year-old victim to a secluded forest area and attacked him with 'unusual violence', inflicting multiple knife wounds. The victim, also a British national, had travelled to Portugal to attend the event.

After the murder, the suspect hid the body using tree branches and pieces of clothing. He later confessed the killing to other partygoers, who accompanied him to the police in nearby Pedrógão Grande to report the incident.

Police noted that the two men were not believed to have known each other personally, and there appeared to be 'no connection with online games or challenges', contrary to early local media reports suggesting an argument during a game.

The suspect has been brought before a court and remanded in custody. The Judiciary Police, Portugal's national agency for serious crimes, confirmed the arrest and the circumstances of the attack.
