British expat Harry Poulton, 25, has warned families with young children to avoid Benidorm during the summer holidays, claiming the Spanish resort 'isn't safe for kids'. During peak season, UK tourists make up 50% of hotel guests, many being families seeking cheap breaks.
Disturbing incidents reported
In a viral clip with 118,000 views, Poulton described witnessing a woman defecating on the street at 9 a.m., apparently still drunk from the previous night. 'I just can’t believe what I’ve just seen,' he said. He also reported seeing a man wearing 'basically nothing' in broad daylight, exposing himself. 'I wouldn’t want my kid walking around seeing that – absolutely not,' he added.
Areas to avoid
Poulton warned tourists to stay away from three specific areas: The Yellow Brick Road, Pueblo Alley, and Mugger's Alley. He noted that the New Town is particularly unsuitable, while the Old Town is 'a little bit different'. He acknowledged that Benidorm has changed in recent years, attracting more stag and hen parties.
Suitable alternatives
Despite his warnings, Poulton highlighted family-friendly attractions such as the Old Town, the aqua park, the zoo, and Terri Mitica. 'There’s loads of places around Benidorm that I think are brilliant for children,' he said.
