A quiet street in a Brisbane suburb became the centre of a major police incident overnight, following a reported shooting and a subsequent house fire that is believed to be a targeted attack.
Emergency services were called to a property on Algester Road in the southern suburb of Parkinson just after 11:30pm on Wednesday, responding to reports of a man being shot.
Upon arrival, Queensland Police officers discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was immediately treated at the scene by Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics before being transported to hospital. His current condition is described as stable.
A Scene of Devastation
As police secured the area, the situation escalated dramatically when the property was deliberately set alight. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews battled the blaze, which tore through the home, causing significant damage.
A crime scene has been declared as investigators work to piece together the precise sequence of events. Initial reports suggest this was not a random act of violence.
Police Launch Investigation
Detectives are now conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding both the shooting and the fire. Forensic officers will examine the scene extensively once the site is declared safe.
Authorities are appealing to the public for any information, particularly from residents in the Algester Road area who may have witnessed suspicious activity or have relevant dashcam or CCTV footage.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously. The investigation is ongoing.
