A former family GP in Brisbane has been charged with 94 counts of rape and 54 counts of sexual assault against 15 female patients, police have announced. Stellios (Stan) Theodoros, 74, of Highgate Hill, faces allegations spanning the early 2000s to 2015 while practising at Wellers Hill Medical Centre in Tarragindi, south Brisbane.
Police allege the offences occurred during medical consultations with women aged from their late teens to their 40s. The charges follow Operation Xray Cariyna, launched by the Upper Mount Gravatt Criminal Investigation Branch in August 2025 after multiple women came forward. Detectives say the investigation uncovered complaints from 15 former patients.
Theodoros worked as a trusted local doctor at the centre until his retirement in 2021 and was removed as a company director last year. He is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on June 23. Detective Senior Sergeant Denis Silk urged anyone with further information to contact police, stating investigations remain ongoing.
One former patient who reported an alleged assault described the charges as “a long time coming”. Speaking to the ABC, she said: “It’s such a relief. This is the biggest milestone and it needed to be known that charges have been laid.” Health authorities confirmed Theodoros no longer holds registration to practise.
Police emphasised that the charges relate specifically to alleged sexual assaults committed under the guise of medical care. Under Australian law, Theodoros is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The case has sent shockwaves through the Brisbane medical community, where he was long regarded as a reliable family physician.
