South Wales Police confirmed they were investigating an abandoned car near Newcastle Hill. The National Police Air Service (NPAS) stated its helicopter crew from St Athan was involved in a search following a road traffic incident.

An NPAS spokesperson said: "At 11.45pm on Thursday, July 16, 2026, a police helicopter crew from NPAS St Athan was deployed to the Bridgend area to assist South Wales Police in a search following a road traffic incident. Total flying time on the task was 56 minutes."
