Residents in Bridgend were startled awake overnight as emergency services responded to an incident in the Bryntirion area. A police helicopter, multiple police officers, and paramedics were deployed, with witnesses reporting visible blood on the pavement.
South Wales Police confirmed they were investigating an abandoned car near Newcastle Hill. The National Police Air Service (NPAS) stated its helicopter crew from St Athan was involved in a search following a road traffic incident.
Police Helicopter Deployment
An NPAS spokesperson said: "At 11.45pm on Thursday, July 16, 2026, a police helicopter crew from NPAS St Athan was deployed to the Bridgend area to assist South Wales Police in a search following a road traffic incident. Total flying time on the task was 56 minutes."
The helicopter was seen circling parts of Bridgend, including Newcastle Hill. The force said investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Local residents expressed concern over the late-night activity. The presence of blood on the pavement heightened anxiety, though police have not yet disclosed details of any injuries or arrests.
