A 15-year-old boy has been arrested following a police chase involving a stolen motorbike in County Durham. Officers are also searching for a dirt bike rider who escaped after abandoning his vehicle.
Incident Details
Police on patrol in Trimdon spotted a black Keeway 125 travelling in the opposite direction in convoy with a scooter. The Keeway had a rider and a pillion passenger, both wearing balaclavas. The scooter's rider was also wearing a balaclava.
When the vehicles saw the officers from Durham Constabulary's motorcycle section, they split up. Neither vehicle was displaying a registration plate.
Arrest and Further Pursuit
The Keeway was pursued by a motorcycle officer before it crashed, and the rider was apprehended with the help of a member of the public. Checks revealed the vehicle had been stolen last month in Sunderland. The 15-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of numerous offences, including driving without a licence and insurance.
Later, a traffic car sighted a new Sur Ron Ultra Bee dirt bike. The rider was wearing a balaclava and no helmet. Police conducted a lengthy pursuit before the rider made off into a crop field, abandoning the bike, which had only 300 miles on the clock, and escaping on foot.
Ongoing Investigation
Enquiries are ongoing to identify the dirt bike rider. Police have asked the member of the public who assisted with the arrest to call them on 101 ext. 202960.
