A 13-year-old boy has died following a house fire in Blackpool, Lancashire Police confirmed on Monday. The blaze, which broke out on Redcar Road at 9:37am on Tuesday, June 30, is believed to have been ignited by an e-bike, according to investigators.
Victim identified as Coby Keogh
The boy has been named as Coby Keogh. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries after the fire and died on Sunday, July 5. In a statement, a police spokesperson said: "Our thoughts are with Coby's loved ones at this time, and they are being supported by specially trained officers. A file will be prepared for HM Coroner."
A 19-year-old man, Joey Gregory, was also seriously injured in the fire and remains in hospital in a critical condition. His mother posted an update on Facebook on Saturday, July 4, saying: "We were told on Tuesday that the first 24-48 hours were critical. Then they said 72..... We are on day 5 and my boy is still here. Keep fighting sunshine, we ain't going nowhere."
Investigation ongoing
Three other occupants of the property sustained minor injuries. The cause of the fire is under joint investigation by Lancashire Police and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service. Officers said there is currently no evidence of third-party involvement and believe the blaze was started by an e-bike.
