Bootle Axe Attack: McDonald's Worker Recounts 'Blood Everywhere' Scene
In a shocking incident at Bootle Strand shopping centre, a McDonald's employee has described seeing 'blood everywhere' after a man was allegedly attacked with an axe. The assault occurred late on Thursday afternoon, prompting a major police response and leaving witnesses traumatised.
Chaotic Scene at Shopping Centre
Merseyside Police were called to Stanley Road at approximately 5.45pm on Thursday, 22 January, following reports of a serious assault. According to official statements, a man in his 40s sustained lacerations to his head and face from what was described as a 'bladed weapon.' The victim was transported to hospital where he remains in stable condition.
An employee working at a nearby shop told The Liverpool Echo: 'I was working and the fella came in and there was blood everywhere, he looked like he'd been hit in the side of his face with an axe.' The witness added that police believe the attack initially occurred further down Stanley Road, with the victim then walking to the Strand area where emergency services attended.
Eyewitness Accounts from Fast Food Workers
A McDonald's staff member who witnessed the aftermath stated: 'We saw it all. A person was hit on the head with an axe. There was lots of blood. Paramedics came and bandaged his head up.' The employee noted that the incident happened about an hour before their statement and expressed uncertainty about the attacker's identity, though mentioned that people frequently congregate on benches in the area.
Another worker from a KFC outlet nearby commented: 'I didn't actually see what happened, I just saw all the blue lights when the emergency services came. People have been coming in and out of the restaurant saying that someone was hit with an axe.'
Police Investigation Underway
Forensic officers were observed at the scene conducting a thorough examination, focusing particularly on a bench and bloodstains near a Burger King restaurant. Investigators removed a bag and coat from the bench as part of their evidence gathering process.
Detective Inspector Sara Lang of Merseyside Police emphasised the seriousness of the investigation: 'This would have been a shocking incident to witness, and we are keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened, or who has since heard any information about those responsible.' She added that while initial indications suggest this was a targeted attack by individuals known to the victim, police are maintaining an open mind regarding the motive.
Appeal for Information
Police have conducted door-to-door enquiries in the area and continue to pursue forensic and CCTV evidence to identify the perpetrators. Detective Inspector Lang made a direct appeal to the public: 'Knife crime devastates communities, so if you know anything, come forward now through the official channels. We will look to take positive action to find these offenders and remove them from the streets.'
She further urged anyone with knowledge about weapon possession in the community to contact authorities proactively to prevent future harm. The investigation remains active as police work to apprehend the suspect responsible for this violent attack in Bootle.
