Workers at DHL warehouses in Northampton have been evacuated after a suspicious package was discovered. The bomb squad, officially known as the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, arrived at the scene on Gowerton Road in the Brackmills Estate shortly after the evacuation began at around 8am on Wednesday.
Both the DHL Supply Chain and DHL Express facilities were affected, with employees told to leave mid-shift. Northamptonshire Police confirmed that specialist officers are assessing the situation, and a cordon has been put in place as a precaution. Fire crews from Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service are also in attendance.
A DHL spokesperson stated that safety is the top priority and that the evacuation was carried out as a precaution. They added that they expect to resume full operations once all required checks are complete. One worker told the Northampton Chronicle: “We got evacuated and it is forbidden to go back. Waiting on the bomb squad.”
Police have said that enquiries are ongoing and further updates will be provided when appropriate. The incident remains under investigation.
