A bomb disposal team has been deployed to Salisbury city centre after a suspicious package was discovered at the Post Office opposite the Cross Keys Shopping Centre, prompting an evacuation of the area. Wiltshire Police confirmed that a cordon remains in place and traffic congestion is affecting the city centre during rush hour.
Meanwhile, a separate incident in the Pinehurst area of Swindon has been resolved. A suspicious item led to the evacuation of 40 homes at Magnolia Court, but residents have since been allowed to return. Police said the incident concluded within an hour of being reported at around 1pm.
Inspector Pete Sparrow of Wiltshire Police stated it is too early to determine whether the two incidents are linked. The force was called to Salisbury at 2:45pm, and the bomb disposal team has entered the building to investigate.
Authorities are advising the public to avoid the city centre and seek alternative routes home. The Cross Keys Shopping Centre remains evacuated as a precaution.
