Residents have been evacuated from their homes in Bolton after a police car crashed into a shop, prompting fears of a gas leak. The incident occurred on Blackburn Road, near the Asda in Astley Bridge, where a cordon has been set up and the road taped off in both directions.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said that shortly before 12pm on Friday, October 2, a police car collided with a vehicle before crashing into a shop on Blackburn Road while responding to a different incident on blue lights. Emergency services are at the scene, and no serious injuries have been reported.
A GMP spokesperson said: "Shortly before 12pm on Friday, October 2, a police car collided with a vehicle before crashing into a shop on Blackburn Road, Bolton, whilst responding to a different incident on blue lights. Emergency services are in attendance and no serious injuries have been reported."
Gas leak response and road closures
Due to a suspected gas leak, a cordon is in place and residents have been evacuated. Road closures are in effect as emergency services deal with the incident. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service reported a strong smell of gas following the crash.
A service spokesperson added: "Just after 12pm on Friday, October 2, fire crews were called to an incident on Blackburn Road, Bolton. A car collided with a building, and a strong smell of gas was reported. Fire crews are still at the scene and working alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Police, North West Ambulance Service and Cadent."
