Body of schoolgirl, 11, pulled from water near Scots park

The body of an 11-year-old girl has been recovered from water near a woodland park in Midlothian. Police were called to the Gore Glen area, near Gorebridge, around 12.40pm on Thursday following concerns for the girl.

Her body was found in the Gore Water near Shanks Bridge around 4.25pm. Police are treating the death as unexplained, and an investigation has been launched.

Police statement

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of concern for an 11-year-old girl in the Gore Glen area, near Gorebridge around 12.40pm on Thursday, 6 August, 2026.

“The body of the girl was found in the Gore Water near to Shanks Bridge around 4.25pm. She was pronounced dead at the scene and her family are aware.

“Her death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
